I just ate a delicious piece of homemade pumpkin pie. You're probably wondering why this is blog-worthy... well, I'm going to tell you.

A week or so ago, on a Friday night, I was sitting in the house reading when there was a loud knock on my door. I knew it wasn't a family member, because the knock was much firmer than any of you knock. I opened the door to find a woman and a young boy. She introduced herself as the mother of one of the woman that just moved into the apartment complex next to Connie & John. She asked me if I was planning on doing anything with the beautiful large pumpkin that was sitting on the bench in the front. I explained that I had thought about cooking it up, but hadn't gotten around to it and for now it was just decoration. I asked her if she wanted it? She said she did. She figured it would make quite a few pumpkin pies and other pumpkiny things. So, I gave the pumpkin away. It felt really good. Most people are too afraid to talk to their neighbors these days and my house doesn't really invite strangers to randomly stop by... it's up on a hill, there's a large set of stairs to get to it, etc...

Last Friday night, I was sitting in the house reading when there was another loud knock on the door (very similar to the one from the previous Friday). I opened the door to find the same woman and young boy with a pumpkin pie in their hands. She said she had cooked up the pumpkin, gotten enough for six pies, a couple of loaves of pumpkin bread and still had some leftover. She thought she should bring me a pie, because it had been my pumpkin. It was such a heart-warming experience. I couldn't stop smiling. I thanked her profusely, shook her hand and took the pie inside.

Well, this morning, for breakfast, I finally decided to cut into the pie. It is delicious! I'm fairly certain it isn't vegan ;), so the sharing will be limited.

I'll be bringing a piece by for Connie & John (a large piece). John, you can eat the pumpkin part, it is very smooth. Connie, you can enjoy as much of it as you want.

Hope everyone is having a great day and a good week.
