Last weekend I made a trip to eastern Washington to visit my friends Jessie & Nolan in Colville and Ruth & her family (Denis, Josie, and Felix) in Spokane. It was a beautiful day for the drive over and I decided to take the scenic route off the freeway and went to Dry Falls and up through some small towns in Stevens County.
I stayed Friday and Saturday night in Colville and enjoyed the fall weather. Friday night: we walked around downtown and stopped in to the Dominion Distillery and tried a couple of cold weather cocktails made with local distilled spirits, had a couple of seasonal ales at the Colville Pour House (a small bar with a variety of beers on tap), checked out some of the shops that were open for the Colville Moonlight Madness sales and popped in to the library, because I wanted to see how it was fairing. Saturday morning: we took the dogs, Dunkel (Jessie & Nolan's schnauzer) and Sigg (a black lab/german shephard mix that is staying with them) for a walk around the Dominion trail (goes around the golf course and some of the farms on the hill). Then we headed out to Kettle Falls to have lunch at the Northern Ales Brewery & Pub and get some groceries at Meyers Falls (a local co-op-ish store). Sunday: Nolan had to go to work and check on a controlled burn he was monitoring (he works for the USFS), Jessie & I had lunch at Rancho Chico (she hadn't ever eaten there), and then I packed up my stuff and headed to Spokane.
Sunday afternoon/evening: Ruth, Denis, Josie, Felix, and I walked around Manito Park, the kids played in the leaves and on the playground. Monday: Denis went to work, Ruth, Felix, and I walked Josie to preschool, and then wandered around Manito Mark and visited the Japanese garden and conservatory there. We hung out at home until 11 and then picked Joseie up at preschool and played in the leaves for the afternoon. Ruth, Denis, & I went to Mizuna for dinner that night. It was delicious, and relaxing, and great to hang out. Josie & Felix stayed home with a babysitter. Tuesday: walked Josie to preschool for her Halloween party, walked around Manito Park again, then picked Josie up at preschool (short day). That evening we went out trick-or-treating for about an hour, collected up enough goodies to make the kids happy, then headed home to put the kids to bed. Wednesday: I headed back across the mountains. The weather turned from sunny fall to rainy fall on my drive across the pass.
I got home in the early afternoon, unpacked, put some laundry in, visited with Connie, and then relaxed for the evening, since I had to go back to work the next day.
It was a great visit; it had been a year since I'd been over to see anyone on the east side. Who knows when I will be going back?
