Yesterday day we arrived early and got into camp while it was still cool. Then I dragged us into town to go through the Chateau Langeais. What a great idea. Doug had seen it before and recommended it. It is small enough to get around and appreciate, it has some remarkably lifelike wax figures of some King and his bride to be with family and followers arranged around. Beautiful costumes with layers and detail. Also tapestries, tiled floors, well basically a nice example. We had a snack out in the gardens and I got a small cutting from a rose I smelled. We took pictures on the camera so nothing to post from the phone.
High 90s and low 100s. We have spent two days and nights here and enjoyed it.
The municipal campground has huge shade trees is beautiful and backs up to a lake and railroad tracks. We bought mosquito spray finally. We were getting eaten up.
We have not been using the rain fly on the tent and as the tent is mostly netting we are finally getting the faint breezes at night. A camper neighbor referred to it as the transparent tent in the campground. Apparently this is not too common.
Last night was listened to some of the live music in town. All of it very good. 4 or 5 different groups at various restaurants. Then we found a creperie and sat down to listen to a musician loop and mix his own instrumentals and vocals. But alas it was too late for crepes, the kitchen had just closed.
To day we did laundry, got groceries and went Back into town for a crepe dinner. We finally got our sarasin crepe! With red bourgueil wine from the region followed by a caramel glacé with apples glazed and infused with Apple cider.
Zipped up now in the tent, away from the mosquitos, aweating.
tomorrow is supposed to be cooler so we hope to make a few extra kilometers. Our goal is saumur, we will probably get close. Doug is thinking about making a side trip to chauvingny for the les geants du ciel spectacle. Large birds of prey trained to sort of perform I think. Just figuring out if it is a bus or bike trip.
