We had gotten an early start from Capestang where we only stayed one night and arrived here before noon, which was just fine because it was getting hot and the trail was not always good.
We are on day three here at the mimosas, a family and kid friendly camping park with pools and a bar that has fancy lights Disney movies and music. The Dj is filtering through some American vintage rock hits....blondie right now.
The most important thing though is that it has shade and they provide the bathrooms with toilette paper! (Many do not).
The ride to here was pretty easy although the Canal du midi bike route through Bèzies is all tore up and rerouted with the occasional detour sign to nowhere. Without google maps it might have taken us hours longer. it all makes sense if you already know where the path should be. I took a harmless tumble into a grassy field so as not to crash into Doug while a gaggle of people passed us at a narrow point. He is a swerver:)
We picked this campsite because it is close to the canal trail and it is near the beach but not on it (so only 23 euros a night. We have been paying less, in general, but it gets pricier down here)
The Mediterranean is a cold sea and to get to it we had to wind around some back roads and look for hidden public access points. The staff here gave us directions we didn't understand and I don't think many people would. We meandered little back roads looking for hints of the beach and then seeking access paths. A lot is fences off but there is public access that gets you to the miles of sandy beach.
We have sunned and swum for two days! Hot and bright weather offset bycold water that feels great once you get in. Very good buoyancy too.
i wouldn't say this is an especially exotic place (some palms and flowering drought tolerant bushes and plain trees) or a star studded place, so I am not sure how awesome it is except we got here :) and the swimming is good. Way too hot though.
we are leaving early tomorrow for beziers to catch a train at 10.41 am to Bordeaux and then transfer to another headed ttours for a couple of days in cooler weather. Then if there is time up to Saint malo.
