Gooseberry Point

Cousin Jody and I went up to Gooseberry Point on the Lummi Reservation last weekend to hang out with Thess and Doug for Thess's birthday. We slept at their neighbor's place, since their trailer is a little small for four people to sleep in. Their neighbors happen to be Don and Eileen from Colville. If you don't remember, Connie worked for Don at his construction firm and Eileen was Connie's partner at Ritzes (the expresso stand). Don and Eileen were out of town, so their place made a great "inn" and we weren't in anyone's way.

Saturday, after we arrived, we all headed in to town (Bellingham, about 12 miles away), wandered through the Saturday market, ate lunch at Boundary Bay Brewery, visited the sock store, a book store, a dessert shop. The weather was beautiful. We hung out at home that evening, eating baguette and cheese, conversing, playing guitar (them, not me).

Sunday we decided it was not necessary to drive anywhere. Their place is about a minute and a half walk from the ocean and you can see quite a few of the islands from the beach (Orcas, Lummi, Portage). We walked along the beach, hung out in the yard in the sun, watched Doug carve and Thess garden, rode the motor scooter around the block a few times, cooked up a pile of kale (from Thess's garden), roasted veggies, played some Munchkin.

Monday was heading home day... Doug went off to do some odd jobs, Thess took Jody and I into town for breakfast at Old Town Café (delicious!!), then we packed up all our stuff and headed back south. It rained a bit, but nothing to make the drive miserable.

We had a wonderful visit and I recommend that you all get up there sometime!
